Horseback Riding

Explore the Rockies on Horseback at Lost Valley Ranch — The Choice for Horseback Riding Vacations

Picture yourself on horseback riding cross-country through meadows, across streams, over mountains, and on trails traveled only by elk, deer, and other mountain critters. At Lost Valley Ranch, we offer horseback riding vacations and instruction that allows our guests to experience the Rocky Mountains as it was during the pioneer days. Discover old logging roads and meadows bursting with colorful wildflowers as you crisscross through ridge tops and fragrant aspens. You may even catch a glimpse of local wildlife as you explore the protected ecology of Pike National Forest.

Our all-inclusive Colorado horse ranch provides guided horseback rides for a variety of skill levels. Rides are offered every morning and afternoon, rain or shine, but when and how often you ride is entirely up to you. Whether this is your first time riding a horse or you are an advanced rider, you will receive personalized attention and instruction from our qualified wranglers. We'll match you with the best horse based on your skill level and personality along with custom-fitting your saddle and mount.

The Horses at Lost Valley Ranch

At Lost Valley Ranch, we have a remuda of 120 horses hand-selected and trained to fit the demands of our riding program. Many of our horses have been bred and trained here on the ranch to ensure the highest opportunity for longevity and success. Horses are assigned to guests for the duration of their stay, so that the riders (and horses) can become acquainted with each other; forming a bond to ensure an enjoyable Colorado horseback riding vacation experience.

Colorado Cattle Roundups

Lost Valley Ranch is also a working Colorado cattle ranch; we breed and raise a mixed herd of Angus-crossed cattle. Each summer the herd is brought up into the high country to graze the hearty and nutritionally diverse grasses found at this elevation. During the fall, we round up all of our cattle so that we can sort and ship them. Our guests are invited to take part in working cattle with us during our Round-Up Week. It's an experience you'll never forget!

Pike National Forest Horseback Riding Trails

Under a permit from the U.S. Forest Service, Lost Valley Ranch has access to 26,000 acres of the most picturesque mountains and trails found anywhere in Colorado. Many of the Colorado horseback riding trails we frequent were originally created by early settlers, trappers, miners, and the wild creatures found in the forests. Trails are selected daily and based upon the skills of the riding group and the terrain they want to see as no two trails are exactly alike.
